Condition for easing Venezuelan sanctions: Export of crude oil to the United States

According to IRNA, Reuters wrote that during the recent talks with Venezuelan officials, US officials have emphasized that their priority is to supply crude oil to their country. The officials told their Venezuelan counterparts that any reduction in Venezuelan sanctions would be conditional on direct oil exports to the United States.

Those familiar with the talks earlier this week, which the United States sought to remove Venezuela from Russia, said the talks had made little progress, but the two sides agreed to hold more talks.

According to Reuters sources, energy was the main topic of the talks, and the two sides discussed Venezuela’s return to markets and the temporary access of the National Oil Company to the World Bank.

On the other hand, following the visit of a delegation from Washington to Venezuela earlier this week, the White House announced before midnight local time on Tuesday that Venezuela had released two American citizens, Gustavo Cardenas and Jorge Fernandez.

The White House statement marks a possible easing of tensions between Washington and Caracas amid the Russia-Ukraine war.
