According to a Fars News Agency correspondent in Tashkent, the Uzbek government plans to build 21 large hydropower plants with a capacity of 740 MW between 2022 and 2026.

According to the plan, small hydropower plants with a capacity of 5 MW will be built in 22 fields, and small hydropower plants up to 500 kV will be built to supply the villages.

Next year, 7 projects with a capacity of 170 MW, in 2023 and 2024, 12 projects with a capacity of 150 MW and in 2025 and 2026, two projects worth 420 MW will be implemented.

Since 2017, when Uzbek Gidroenergo was established, 11 new hydropower plants have been built and eight more have been rebuilt. As a result of these additional capacities, 244 MW of electricity generation has been created, but Uzbekistan’s hydropower potential is only partially exploited.
