Continued US cooperation with South Korea on Iran block assets

According to Fars News Agency’s International Economics Group, Yonhap newspaper wrote: The Minister of Finance of South Korea and the United States agreed to cooperate in the field of Iran’s blocked assets in Seoul.

During the meeting, South Korea’s finance minister expressed his concern about the US request to Korean chipmakers to share information on their supply chains to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

The Commerce Department recently asked global chipmakers, including Samsung Electronics, to share stock information, demand and other details to “increase trust and transparency in the supply chain.”

During the meeting, the two Korean and US officials also agreed to continue cooperating on Iran’s blocked assets in Seoul.

South Korea is seeking to use a US-backed Swiss channel to use part of the money to sell Swiss companies’ humanitarian items to Iran.

According to Fars, South Korea’s debt to Iran in exchange for the purchase of gas condensate in the two banks of this country is worth a total of seven billion dollars, which has not been paid since September 2018 (September 1397) under the pretext of US sanctions. Since then, there have been trips between the two countries’ officials and consultations, the last of which was at the level of the South Korean prime minister, but virtually no change has taken place since.
