Countdown to Historical Ethereum Update; The first stage of the Meraj upgrade is done today

The first stage of the Ethereum network’s historic upgrade, the Merge, will take place today, and after that the Ethereum network will be just one more step away from moving to a proof-of-stake model.

To Report Cointelegraph, currently 73.5% of Ethereum network nodes are ready to update Marj, and the first part of this update, which is called Bellatrix, is scheduled to be done today and in a few hours.

Bellatrix is the first stage of the Marj Ethereum event, which will eventually change the blockchain mechanism of this digital currency from proof of work to proof of stake by the end of September.

In order for the network as a whole to be ready for Marj’s upgrade, it is necessary for Ethereum client nodes to update their consensus layer before reaching Epoch number “144896” in the Beacon Chain (Etherum Proof-of-Stake network). According to Ethereum Foundation’s estimate, the upgrade of Bellatrix will be done today around 16:00 Tehran time.

The status of Ethereum nodes on the eve of Bellatrix upgrade; Green color shows the number of ready nodes and red color shows the number of non-ready nodes.

Currently, 26.5% of Ethereum nodes are not yet ready to update Bellatrix, and for this reason, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Tim Biko, one of its main developers, have pressured nodes on their Twitter to update their clients as soon as possible.

According to the Ethereum Foundation, nodes that did not prepare before the Bellatrix update will cause some clients to sync with the pre-merge chain.

The Ethereum Foundation has warned:

Nodes that have not updated their client will be stuck in an inconsistent chain that follows the old rules and will no longer be able to send ether or be active on the post-merge chain.

According to data from Ethernodes, most of the nodes that are not yet ready to upgrade to Bellatrix are related to geth client and have not yet updated their client to geth 1.10.23 or higher. Other clients that need to be updated are Erigon, Besu, and Nethermind.

After Bellatrix’s upgrade, the final stage of the Marj event will take place, titled “Paris Update”. It should be noted that the Paris update is activated when the Ethereum network difficulty reaches “587500000000000000000”. It is expected that these conditions will be met on September 15 (24 Shahrivar).

When the difficulty of the network in the execution layer of Ethereum exceeds this figure, the next block will be produced by the activity of one of the validators of Beacon Chain, and after the finalization of this block, Ethereum will officially be a blockchain based on proof of stake.

According to the Ethereum Foundation, users do not need to do anything with their Ether or other Ethereum network-based tokens during the event, and should be wary of scams that are in any way attributed to the event.
