Dangerous Trojans lurking in Android banking applications

Examination of more than 600 financial applications by the mobile security company Zimprium showed that 10 banking malware families are targeting these applications, and the most attacks against the mobile banking application were against the Spanish bank BBVA application, which has been downloaded more than 10 million times.

In the United States, 121 financial applications that have been downloaded more than 280 million times have been targeted by trojans, according to ISNA. After the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy have the highest number of attacks on financial applications, with 55 applications and 43 applications targeted, respectively.

According to Zimprium, Trojans are not interested in traditional banking applications and prefer modern technology solutions. Apps that focus on mobile payments or cryptocurrencies are very popular. In fact, the three mobile financial applications targeted by this type of malware are related to alternative financial assets.

According to the Tek Radar website, Tipat is the most active banking trojan, with over 410 applications out of 600 reviewed, and Exobat Compact D, known as Octo, is the oldest banking trojan to be launched for the first time. It was identified five years ago.
