Delivery of the year with turtles, salamanders and eels!

Every year, goldfish is an integral part of the Iranian seventies’s table at the time of delivery. The glass jars in which the goldfish dance basically sit comfortably on the seventh table. For several years now, turtles and small blue snakes have been guests of these round and narrow straits, and now they are also the new guests of the Seven Seas.

According to ISNA, “Shahrvand” newspaper further wrote: “We do not care who is interested in keeping snakes and turtles on the table at the time of New Year’s delivery, but this year, despite the warnings given by the Environment Organization about the invasion of these animals, there is still no monitoring.” Organizations responsible for the sale of these species can be seen on the streets and in goldfish shops.

The Environment Agency has announced that buying and selling dangerous goldfish and turtles and snakes is prohibited. Some experts believe that goldfish pose no threat to nature and the environment and are not considered an invasive species, while Mohammad Asgharzadeh, director general of South Khorasan Veterinary, said that common diseases between goldfish and humans are dangerous and common. It does not exist and people should not worry about it. But these fish carry germs that cause diarrhea, vomiting and nausea in sensitive and allergic people.

He believes that in this period when it is common to sell goldfish, if your hand comes in contact with fish or water that contains fish, you must immediately wash your hands with soap and water and disinfect them. In addition, people with suspected symptoms of respiratory disease should not be involved in the production and transport cycle of goldfish.

The official pointed out that personal and environmental hygiene, washing and disinfection of storage equipment, use of disposable containers for transporting fish to the house and not being in unprotected contact with water and fish are important and effective factors in preventing From disease transmission.

Asgharzadeh points out that people with a history of skin disease or allergies should avoid direct contact with the fish and its storage container, or at least use gloves. Call veterinary centers.

He recommends that children avoid touching fish and not touching their eyes, face and mouth after working with an aquarium or fish storage container to prevent possible diseases that can be transmitted to humans.

Goldfish are not harmful to health

The words of the Director General of Veterinary Medicine of South Khorasan Province have been made while Amir Aghababaei, the internal director of the Iranian Aquatic Association, believes that the disease that may occur is an allergy or skin eczema caused by hand contact with the surface of the fish, which is possible for some people. Update. Which, of course, is not a concern

He explains that these fish are not aggressive at all and they do not even eat the food of other fish. These types of fish feed on water, micronutrients, and eventually their own feces.

Emphasizing that these fish do not eat human food and do not survive long, he emphasizes that some people leave these fish in ponds or rivers. These fish die quickly, and the small percentage that survive do not eventually gain 200 to 300 grams, and even if they spawn, their eggs do not last long. This type of fish needs controlled conditions for spawning and growth and is considered as a hydrothermal fish and should be kept in an environment with a temperature between 15 and 16 degrees Celsius to allow them to grow, which happens in normal conditions and in the pool. And there is no river.

Infected habitats of turtles and snakes

But this is not the opinion of all experts in this field. Mohammad Ali Yektanik, an expert and environmental activist and wildlife therapist, explains to Shahrovand that these animals are not dangerous in themselves, but the problem is that they catch turtles and snakes from freshwater streams. These streams are the passage of agricultural wastewater and in fact these animals are found in 27 forbidden points in Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan province which are considered microbial points. Red flags should be flown at these points so that no one can approach them.

He emphasizes that the least common disease that these animals cause is salmonella; Causes dysentery, which is a very dangerous disease. In fact, the reason these animals are dangerous is that their habitat is in the sewage.

Why people are interested in keeping dangerous animals

Why do people like to keep wild animals? Why is the market for turtles, snakes and salamanders so hot these days, and as we approach mid-spring, the market for fox cubs, bear cubs, crocodile cubs and tiger cubs is heating up in the country.

“This objection goes back to the message that people receive from society,” Yektanik said in response to this question. The sense of difference and the message that if you keep a wild animal you know how to have fun, has made people lucky enough to buy different species of animals. When people turn on the TV and see the first picture on the glittering Nowruz table that the TV has prepared for them, they are definitely buying fish and they can not be told that these fish can be dangerous for their children. .

When tourist centers give large sums of money to smugglers to buy animals and these species are displayed in tourist centers, the general belief is formed that keeping these species is a difference.

“Unfortunately, the smugglers’ hands are open in this area, and you can find any rare Iranian and foreign animals in the Azadegan market,” he explains. In fact, these smugglers are either not arrested at all or if they are arrested, they will be acquitted very soon, and this is a problem that has left the smugglers free in this area.

“All the birds you see in the bird garden in different parts of the city have been smuggled into the country, and the mushrooming of such places makes people think that keeping different species of animals can be enjoyable,” Yektanik said, referring to bird sanctuaries in parks. “Be.”

He explains that these red fish are taken from the Chinese tradition and have nothing to do with the culture of our country. In fact, it is a non-native species. Even if these fish do not cause us any harm, we kill a lot of fish every year with this wrong tradition.

This environmental activist points out that the two Persian Gulf and ornamental fish markets on Nawab Street in Tehran are a supply center for a variety of fish, snakes and turtles, and among them are rare species and smuggled species.
