Detention: Troops from the Middle East participated in the insurgency in Kazakhstan



In an interview with Council of Europe President Charles Michel, Tawaqif said on Monday that foreign forces, mainly from Central Asian countries, including Afghanistan, as well as the Middle East, had taken part in recent riots in Kazakhstan, IRNA reported.

“I have no doubt that these were terrorist attacks,” Togayev added, according to a statement from the Kazakh president’s press office.

The Kazakh president stressed that this was an (aggressive) act of aggression against Kazakhstan with the participation of foreign militants, mainly from Central Asian countries, including Afghanistan, and that militias from the Middle East were also present.

According to Tawaqif, their intention was to create controlled chaos in our territory by seizing power, which is why anti-terrorist operations began in Kazakhstan.

The economic damage from the recent unrest in Kazakhstan could reach $ 2 billion to $ 3 billion, Toghayev noted.

Protests in several Kazakh cities began on January 2 (January 12th) and gradually led to mass riots, with government buildings in several cities being targeted by looters.

Violent clashes resulted in numerous deaths and injuries. Kazakh President’s arrest calls on Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization to send Russian troops to Kazakhstan.
