Discovery of new oil reservoirs in southwest Iran/ existence of 14 oil and gas exploratory blocks in the country

According to Fars news agency, Mehdi Fakour today (Tuesday, December 15) in a meeting with reporters, pointing out that during the past year, actions have been taken in the exploration of oil and gas, he said: based on the studies of international organizations, in the future of the three countries of Iran, Russia and Iraq have the most explorations, and other countries in the region are ending their explorations, which will have high ranks both in terms of attracting foreign capital and continuing oil and gas production.

Pointing to Iran’s position in the region with regard to the sedimentary basins in the south of Zagros, he added: the amount of hydrocarbons they have considered for Iran is equivalent to 16 billion barrels, which is important from the perspective of the country’s progress and attracting foreign capital.

The Director of Exploration of National Iranian Oil Company pointed out that every country that is blessed with energy has a more prosperous economy and stated: Foreign investors should know that Iran will have the first say in oil and gas and they should enter the Iranian market in order to be profitable.

* Investigation of 10% of the area of Iran by aerial magnetometer method

Fakour emphasized: One of the important works that was unique was the aerial magnetometry with airplanes, and up to the depth of 7,000 meters under the ground, sedimentary changes are detected. For the first time, this work was done in Iran with light aircraft.

In explaining this, he stated: The required equipment was installed on the plane, and then the plane was assembled and approved by the Aviation Organization for flight. In order to receive information, no interference should be created, so the plane is designed to have the least noise.

The exploration director of the National Iranian Oil Company stated that the plane must move at a height of 600-650 meters above the ground and requires a skilled pilot, adding: “It is difficult to collect information in the Zagros mountains, because the angle of ascent must be defined.”

Emphasizing that 175,000 kilometers of Iran’s soil will be surveyed with this plane, Fakour said: One tenth of Iran’s area is to be studied in this way, and this method will reduce the time of exploration projects to a minimum.

* Cooperation with education

The director of exploration of the National Iranian Oil Company pointed to the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the company and the Ministry of Education for cooperation in the Geology Olympiad and stated: 15 members of the exploration management team trained the students who were able to get the third place in the world.

Fekur said: We have now entered into cooperation with four countries for exploratory studies, including Tajikistan.

Recalling that 14 exploratory blocks have been defined in Iran, he emphasized: One of our offshore blocks has been designed by Iranian experts and is on the verge of signing a contract.

* Research cooperation with 5 European countries

The Director of Exploration of National Iranian Oil Company said: We entered into cooperation with one Asian country and five European countries and we are working with these countries in some research projects.

Pointing out that the first project, which is pristine and designed by a knowledge-based company, is a surface geochemical project, he added: In this method, special bacteria present in oil are examined.

Stating that the verification of this project is done by seismography, Fekur continued: Oil reservoirs have been discovered in the southwest.
