Do automakers agree to import cars? / Can they compete?

According to Tejarat News, the secretary of the Automobile Manufacturers Association stated in an interview: Automakers have never been against importing cars. All goods produced in the country must be imported at 5%. Because imports increase the sense of competition between domestic producers.

He, of course, added: “If import liberalization is to take place, let the deficit of factory parts be provided so that the production line is not stopped and we create jobs.” All goods produced in the country must be imported at five percent (Young Journalist Club).

In the past, carmakers have also written letters calling for the import of cars to be liberalized. But carmakers are talking about importing parts that have left parking cars incomplete.

Meanwhile, the parliament emphasizes the arrival of 50,000 cars next year.

Amir Hossein Kakai, an expert in the automotive industry, in response to the question of what effect the import of 50,000 vehicles will have on the economic situation, said: “This issue has the greatest impact on government revenue.” People think that the government has stopped imports because of its support for the car industry, while the government has stopped importing many products, including foreign cars, to manage foreign exchange consumption.

In an interview with Tejarat News, Kazem Mohammadi Nikkhah, an automotive expert, said: “Importing cars into the country is time consuming, but it must be done in any situation.” Those who claim to be carmakers should not object to this.

He added: “It does not seem that this support of car manufacturers is a show and with the liberalization of imports, competition will be seriously formed.”

Can automakers compete?

Farbod Zaveh, an automotive expert, told Tejarat News about the competition between domestic cars and imported cars: “Certainly, the domestic automaker can compete in these conditions.”

He added: “Most car production in the country belongs to the time when car imports to the country were free.” Between 1984 and 1987, car production in the country reached 1.6 million units.

The car expert continued: “Car import does not create a barrier for domestic automakers.” Because customers of imported cars do not consume domestic cars.

“Companies that assemble Chinese cars in the country should be concerned about import liberalization,” Zaveh explained. There is no threat to the mass-produced domestic automaker. So they are not against import liberalization.
