Do not be fooled by self-help books / Social networks have taken depth from us – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world’s news

According to the Mehr news agency, in the seventh week of the new series of the reading lamp program, the book “Digital Captivity” written by Shadi Irandoost, Faraz Nabi, Mehdi Shami Zanjani was reviewed. The guest of this part of the program was Mehdi Shami Zanjani, one of the authors of this work.
At the beginning of the program, Najafi asked the translator why a digital captain?
Shami Zanjani replied: Today we live in a digital age that is very different from the past. For example, in the past, if we asked people to name several companies, they would say the names of oil and gas companies, but if we ask the same question today, most people will say the names of digital companies. The meaning of this example is that the people of the street and the bazaar also realized that this era has changed and this change was not felt only by certain people.
He added: “In such an atmosphere where there are all kinds of changes, the ship of the country, the organization, the family and this planet’s wants to reach its destination and a safe shore, but this will not happen without the captain, so this rudder must be properly Let’s take it so that we can survive the dangers that exist and enjoy reaching the beach.
“One of the capabilities of today’s world is data discussion and data analysis, because in our lives today, data is used from morning to night,” he said, noting that he interpreted space as a sea and a storm. For example, today when we go and get vaccinated, no one asks us if we are OK or what symptoms we have, but there are applications abroad that monitor our condition. These are the things that provide us with data and we have to make decisions based on that. Another example is that there are all kinds of offers for us in the digital age, and the knowledge of applications has increased so much that it can advise us what else we can buy besides our purchase, and these recommendations are absolutely correct because knowing it That’s right from me. Of course, this story is very similar to the game paragraph. I would like you to give me a personalized offer, but at the same time I am worried that you will get lost in my life.
The author and researcher continued: “If you look at the stages of artificial intelligence, you will see that we have products that are not supposed to be able to create beings higher than themselves.” So far, it seems that we are still far from the point we are worried about, and talking too much about the evils of technology causes us to miss it and not use it properly. In the pre-digital world, people were connected. After a while, objects came into play. Objects became smart. In fact, objects were connected to us instead of people, so the process made money instead of goods. For example, today pharmaceutical companies went to To sell treatment instead of selling medicine.
Najafi then asked, “Is it good to leave all our affairs to artificial intelligence?”
Shami Zanjani said: the story should be seen beyond artificial intelligence and we should ask the question whether it is good that we bring so much technology in all areas of our lives? As has been said many times, the technology of the sword is double-edged sword, and for this reason captivity means neither pure surrender to it nor pure guarding. First of all, the literacy of the society must increase. Literacy means both general and specialized and academic literacy. We need to know the criteria for diagnosis and use and how much we want to manage our lives. Technology sometimes leads human beings to happiness and sometimes to domination. So words like captain wants to tell us that this phenomenon must be treated wisely and cautiously.
The host of the reading lamp program went on to discuss the components of the digital age mentioned in the book and asked Shami Zanjani to talk a little about those components.
Shami Zanjani explained: Technology and at the top of them, social networks seem to have taken some depth from us. Social media sometimes brings with it a culture. See, for example, on Twitter, we have word restrictions. Writing and saying a few lines and a few words is not going to give us depth, but it gives us the illusion of knowing. As someone who works in this field, I think when we are talking about this field, we are talking about at least 70 to 75% of the positive events and 25% of it should not be abused.
He added: “In the digital world, we are leaving our mark. They say that in the near future we do not need to create a resume because the organization itself knows what I am, where I come from and who I am. Now, this footprint has both positive and negative points.
Najafi asked in the end, where do you think our digital future will lead?
The professor of the University of Tehran said: Your question was answered before me, one of the professors of technology futures studies at Boston University, and said: What is happening in the years 2015 to 2025 is as much as what happened in the world before 2015. That is, the world until 2015 in terms of technology, developments in life and technology on one scale and 2015 to 2025 on another scale. “I don’t know,” he says of 2025. So we do not know what is on the way, but we know that great things are on the way. In digital Iran and smart Iran, we can have the best achievement when we can solve the country’s problems with the same intelligence. Digital Iran can heal the wounds of decades or even centuries. Resistance to the digital world and technology is not the solution. We must accept them and increase our literacy.
He added: “We can have a national network, but we do not have a national internet.” Can it be an international national issue ?! One of the hallmarks of the digital age is borderlessness.
In the critical thinking section, however, Mohammad Mullah Abbasi spoke about one of his book-reading skills on a weekly basis.
In this week’s program, he explained the process of over-simplifying concepts by the author of critical thinking books or self-help books, saying that many of the great writers were also great readers and wrote about their reading experiences. Walter Benjamin, for example, says in One Side Street: “Sometimes when I drown in a book, I look up and feel heavy snow and white everywhere.” The meaning of these sentences is that the riddles are solved and we understood the meaning of what we did not understand, and in a sense all the books want to explain the problem that we are concerned about and do not know. It makes us feel very good, but the very moment we feel the problem is simplified, there is a danger that the book will simplify for you something that is not really simple or give a solution that It is not perfect and there are deceptions in the issue. So as a general recommendation, keep in mind that whenever you feel a book has attracted and convinced you a lot, wait a moment and think about why you are accepting the author’s argument. A good writer tries to simplify the complex issue in the process of writing his book, and this simplicity is enjoyable, but be aware that a good reader should complicate the process of simplifying the book for himself.
