At the heart of this project is the “Cube”, which is a cube-shaped structure 400 meters high, 400 meters wide and 400 meters long, and it is big enough to accommodate 20 Empire State Buildings. This project is supposed to be completed in 2030.

The holographic technology used in this project creates a “new reality” experience for people while shopping and eating. The “cube” building also includes recreational facilities such as hotels and residential units.

“CNN” wrote in a report to introduce this project that Saudi Arabia, which has been in the headlines for decades due to human rights violations, has now embarked on an ambitious project to move the country’s economy away from reliance on oil and to improve Saudi Arabia’s image. However, some analysts believe that the project reflects Saudi Arabia’s serious competition with its neighbors, namely Dubai and Doha, both of which have worked for decades to become regional investment and tourism hubs.

In 2021, Mohammed bin Salman announced the $500 billion Neom city project in the northwest of the country, promising robot servants, flying taxis and a giant artificial moon. Last year, he also announced a giant linear city called “Line” that will accommodate 9 million people.

According to Saudi media, the country currently has an 800 billion dollar plan to double the size of the capital in the next decade as well as turn it into a cultural and economic center for the region, and Saudi officials insist that the projects are proceeding according to plan.

It is not yet known how much the construction of the “New Square” will be or how the “Saudi Public Investment Fund” plans to finance it.

In February, in response to CNN’s question about the cost and financial plans of this project, the Saudi Public Investment Fund said that the details have not yet been announced and more information will be released in the future.

In the meantime, some analysts are skeptical and believe that Saudi Arabia may not be able to provide sufficient funds to realize its ambitions.

“Anders Krieg”, a researcher at the Middle East Studies Institute of King’s College London, said: “All of this is not fully funded. “Saudi Arabia has tried to get a large number of foreign direct investors to realize this project so that the public investment fund can finance this project.”

Saudi Arabia hopes to add 388 billion rials, equivalent to 103 billion dollars, to the public investment fund by 2030.

According to this report, “Simon Henderson” – the director of the Gulf (Persian) policy and energy program at the Washington Institute – believes that Saudi Arabia’s ability to finance this project also depends on the price of oil.

While some have scoffed at the new city and doubted its habitability, others have pointed out the strange resemblance of its cubic skyscraper to Islam’s holiest site in Mecca, the Kaaba.
