The National Film Critics Association of America is a prestigious organization that has members from all over the top entertainment publications as well as prominent freelancers. The Los Angeles Times’ Justin Cheng is the organization’s chairman.
Any film that has been released in the United States in 2021, whether in theaters or on streaming platforms, can participate in this award. Unlike many other groups, this award does not have a nomination process. The winners of the first, second and third prizes for each category are announced along with the number of votes they cast, which often shows how close the competition is.
Last year, “Land of the Displaced” won the Best Picture award and was able to beat “The First Cow” by just two votes. “Parasite” or “Parasite” had previously been selected as the best film of this association, which was finally selected as the best film of the Oscar.
