Elysee: France guarantees security to Ukraine

According to Fars News Agency’s International Service, the Elysee Palace announced on Tuesday evening that French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged that Paris will provide security guarantees to Kiev if Ukraine reaches an agreement with Russia.

On the other hand, the French ambassador in Washington said today that Russia’s attack on Ukraine is not only a shock, but also a historic change that requires historic decisions.

He added that Ukraine’s formal application to join the European Union should be taken seriously.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelinsky recently said in an interview that the United States, Turkey and a number of European countries have announced their readiness to guarantee any possible agreement with Russia.

He said any peace agreement with Russia would include two documents, the first on security guarantees given to Ukraine and the second on bilateral relations with Russia.

The first round of talks on security guarantees is expected to take place with the participation of Britain, the United States, Germany, France and Poland, the Ukrainian president said.

Russia has repeatedly stated that Ukraine must recognize the independence of the Crimean peninsula and the two republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, and accept Russia’s request for nuclear disarmament.

Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24 following NATO provocative actions on the Russian border, and Western countries, especially the United States, not only failed to reduce tensions and end the conflict in Ukraine, but also sent equipment. And weapons and pressure on Russia have further fueled the unrest.

End of message.
