Erdogan and El-Sisi met for the first time in Doha
According to Fars News Agency, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for the first time on Sunday.
According to media reports, it seems that the Emir of Qatar has planned a short meeting between Erdogan and Al-Sisi in Doha.
This short meeting takes place while Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stated a few days ago that the process of negotiations with Turkey to normalize relations has stopped, because there has been no change in Ankara’s procedure.
In a televised interview, he added: This issue once again comes back to the necessity of adhering to international standards and laws.
This Egyptian official pointed out that one of the worrisome issues is the non-extraction of foreign forces from Libya until now and the non-adoption of decisive measures to achieve this goal. which should be well established in the management of international relations.
Since a few years ago, the Turkish government has used the occurrence of crises and wars in Africa, including Libya, as a basis for sending military forces to this region and is trying to strengthen its foothold in this country militarily.
Turkey’s insistence to keep its troops in Libya, while the Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Al-Munkhosh recently asked Turkey to withdraw its troops from the country during a hearing in the Italian Parliament in Rome.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu considered the termination of military support to the Libyan national unity government to the detriment of the country and emphasized the continuation of the military presence in Libya, citing the agreement he signed with Tripoli.
One of the key reasons for Turkey’s presence in Libya is access to energy resources. Turkey is trying to get a share of the oil and gas reserves of the region by bypassing Greece and creating a water border in the east of the Mediterranean Sea. Greece has also signed an agreement with Italy on the demarcation of maritime borders in opposition to Libya’s agreement with Turkey.
