Erdogan’s flight to Abu Dhabi; Will the UAE become the savior of Turkey?

According to IRNA, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is also seeking to expand relations with the Zionist regime and Saudi Arabia, is considering reheating his relations with the Crown Prince of the UAE to resolve Turkey’s problems.

In the year and five months before the upcoming presidential election, following the sharp devaluation of the national currency, Erdogan has found many opponents from various parties, even from his own ruling party, which could lead him to the second term of the Turkish presidential election after Its presidency fails to reach power. ((Presidential elections and the 28th parliamentary elections in Turkey will be held on June 23, 2023 (July 2, 1402).))

(After the referendum on the Turkish constitution in April 2017, the parliamentary system became the presidential system with a vote of 51% of the participants.)

During his visit to the UAE, in addition to holding some official meetings, including meeting with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Erdogan will attend the opening ceremony of “Turkish National Day” at the Dubai Expo, according to the Turkish presidency. Meeting with businessmen is another part of the Turkish President’s visit to the UAE.
Anatoly wrote about the trip, “During this trip, new investment agreements are expected to be signed, which started in November 2021 during the visit of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi to Ankara; “News sources reported the signing of 12 agreements between Abu Dhabi and Ankara during this trip.” (Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, traveled to Turkey on November 24, 2021.)
In an interview with Anatolia, the Chairman of the Turkish-UAE Council of Foreign Economic Relations (DEIK), Tawfiq Oz, noted the positive consequences of developments in the two countries’ trade and economic relations, saying that the long period of trade recession It ushered in a new era in which business activity accelerated and mutual investment and trade revived.
On the eve of his visit to Abu Dhabi last Saturday, Erdogan described the trip as an opportunity to take cooperation between the two countries to a higher level in an article entitled “The Time for Efforts for Peace and Cooperation in the Fugitive Areas” published in a special issue of the Gulf Times. explained. He expressed satisfaction with the evolution of relations between the two countries in the framework of bilateral cooperation and expressed confidence that the increase in cooperation between the two countries will have positive repercussions for the region.
The President of Turkey had said that the volume of trade between the two countries has increased with each passing year and we intend to double these figures in the coming years.
Erdogan also stressed that Turkey and the United Arab Emirates would benefit from joint assistance to regional prosperity, co-operation and peace, adding that efforts to develop bilateral co-operation would also help ensure global stability.
He also said that in parallel with cooperation between the two countries in areas such as energy, health, agriculture, logistics, financing and tourism, we seek to develop cooperation in the fields of energy and food and water security.
According to the Middle East News, Erdogan also stressed in his memo that the strengthening of relations between the UAE and Turkey occurs at a time when the world is witnessing increased competition and increased cooperation between the two countries will benefit the region.
Referring to trade between the two countries, which has reached $ 89.6 billion over the past decade, the Turkish president wrote: “The UAE is Turkey’s largest trading partner among the GCC countries, and these exchanges will continue to grow, as It reached $ 8.9 billion in 2020, up 21 percent from the previous year, and Turkey wants to double that figure in the next few years.
The Turkish President also stressed the importance of the UAE-Turkey cooperation in achieving regional peace and stability, especially in neighboring countries and Africa, and contributing to global stability within the framework of the “collective interest” principle. And the two countries can build their common future on their own, and the two countries do not see the security and stability of the other GCC countries as separate from their security and stability.
Erdogan further stressed his country’s efforts to expand cooperation with the UAE in the fields of energy, health, agriculture, logistics services, infrastructure, investment, tourism, climate change and water and maritime security, and to seek new areas for cooperation.
“The two sides believe that regional economic cooperation in the framework of bilateral relations and multilateral mechanisms is the basis for establishing stability and peace in the region,” said Fakhreddin Alton, head of the Turkish Presidential Communications Agency.
“The main purpose of Erdogan’s visit to the United Arab Emirates is to strengthen the process of regional talks and dialogue in order to build lasting peace and develop bilateral relations to a higher level,” he wrote in an article published in Al-Ittihad newspaper.
“Turkey is taking steps to strengthen relations with brotherly countries in the Persian Gulf region in order to establish stability and peace in the region,” he added.

“It is necessary to take a new and different approach to tackling the problems of the corona epidemic at the regional and global levels,” he said. Choice is a necessity.
Alton also stressed that the Middle East, more than any other region in the world, needs cooperation, coordination and dialogue between existing countries, and called Ankara’s approach to building a better future for the region “economic cooperation and political negotiations.”

Regardless of what is being said about Erdogan’s visit to the UAE, some economic observers have speculated that the Turkish president would agree to grant large economic concessions to the UAE, as long as it benefits the Turkish economy and lira.

The Turkish lira has lost more than 40 percent of its value in recent months, and Erdogan is worried as his chances of winning the June 2023 presidential election threaten.

Erdogan is trying to regain power by approaching the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and restoring economic prosperity to Turkey. Now the question can be asked whether the UAE can be the savior of Turkey and better to say Erdogan in the current severe economic crisis of this country?
