Eurostat: One fifth of Europeans are exposed to poverty and deprivation

According to Fars International Economic Group, according to the report of the European Union Statistics Office, more than 95 million people in this union experienced poverty last year.

Eurostat statistics published today showed that a fifth of European citizens were at risk of poverty or social exclusion last year. The European institution announced in a statement: “95.3 million people in the European Union (22% of the population of this Union) were at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2022.”

According to these statistics, living in a family that experiences at least one of the three main risks of poverty, severe social and material deprivation, or a very low-level hard job, is considered to be at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

It is stated in this statement, this figure has remained relatively constant because it was 95.4 million people in 2021.

Among the 27 member countries of the European Union, Romania has the largest share of the population facing poverty and deprivation (34%). It is followed by Bulgaria (32%), Greece and Spain (both 26%).

On the other hand, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Poland have the lowest share of the population facing deprivation, which is 12, 13, and 16 percent, respectively.

Following the spread of the Corona virus and then the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which resulted in Western sanctions against the country’s oil and gas, with the increase in energy costs in Europe, the inflation rate in the countries of this union increased sharply, and the increase in the cost of living became a crisis. which puts more pressure on European families day by day, so that in many countries, families cannot afford their daily expenses and even reduce their meals and medical and health expenses to continue living.
