Extension of the ban on commercial fishing of Caspian sturgeon

Director General of Iran’s Aquatic Genetic Resources Restoration and Protection Office announced the extension of the ban on hundreds of sturgeon fish in the Caspian Sea.
According to Moj news agency, quoted by the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture, “Nasser Karmi-Rad” stated on the sidelines of the specialized meeting of the country’s sturgeon breeders that was held in Anzali port: According to the agreement of the 5 countries along the Caspian Sea in the Caspian Sea Water Resources Convention, the ban The commercial fishing of sturgeon has been approved, and this year is the 11th year, and according to the agreement, this ban will continue for another year.
Pointing out that Iran has a long history in the restoration of sturgeon stocks, which even reaches a hundred years, he added: Iran is one of the leading countries in the field of restoration of sturgeon stocks, which we want to develop, and along with banning commercial fishing, Reserves are being restored.
The director general of Iran’s Aquatic Genetic Resources Restoration and Protection Office stated that fishing takes place in the Caspian Sea; But everything that is caught is delivered to stock restoration centers for the purpose of production and reproduction, he stated: We have four sturgeon stock restoration centers in the three northern provinces of the country, two strategic fish stock restoration centers in Gilan province, one center in Mazandaran and There is also a center in Golestan that reproduces and releases productive sturgeon fish caught from the sea.
Pointing out that Iran’s caviar brand is one of the best brands, Karmi Rad emphasized: Due to the sharp decrease in the species of sturgeon that are on the verge of extinction, we reproduce about 2 to 3 million pieces in high weights and release them into the sea.
Director General of Iran’s Aquatic Genetic Resources Restoration and Protection Office, stating that we rank first in elephant fish species trade and China is after us, said: We rank 14th in the whole sturgeon trade, and last year 16 tons of caviar were sold. It is produced in the country, of which about 5.5 tons are exported and about 11 tons are consumed in the domestic market.
