Facts about the difference between electric and gasoline cars that you probably didn’t know



According to the online economy report, quoted by Euronews, we all know Elon Musk or at least have heard his name. He is a somewhat eccentric entrepreneur and a lover of technology.

He’s been in the news almost all the time, especially since he bought Tweener and turned it into X. But the main reason that we are interested here in the first place is the role of his company, Tesla, in bringing electric cars into our lives.

In 2022, about 3.1 million electric cars will be sold in Europe. This is the highest sales of these cars and has increased by 58% compared to last year. But how do electric cars work and what are their main differences from regular cars?

What’s under their hood?

Of course, most of the difference between traditional cars that run on fossil fuels and electronic cars lies under the hood.

The first difference is their engine. A gasoline car has an internal combustion engine that works on this principle, the mixture of fuel and air is compressed, ignited, and an explosion occurs.

And to put it simply, the energy from this explosion is used to move the engine and move the car forward. But in electric cars, the motor is electric and works with electromagnets.

The second difference is the battery. Electric vehicles are equipped with batteries to power the engine. These batteries are built on lithium-ion technology, similar to the batteries in your phone.

The electrical current converter is the last major component. The battery provides direct current, but your motor needs alternating current. The electric current converter exactly converts direct current to alternating current.

Are electric cars what they seem?

It seems that the main advantage of electric cars is that because there is no exhaust system and therefore pollution, it is better for the environment.

The technology of electric motors is simpler than combustion engines. There are fewer parts, so it requires less maintenance and breaks down less often.

All of these issues together seem very promising, but not everything is black and white.

First, the cost of buying an electric car is much higher than the gasoline or diesel equivalent, even if you consider that you pay less maintenance and fuel over time.

The next issue is charging stations. Not every house is equipped with a charging station, and many houses do not have the possibility to install one. Although the number of these stations is increasing, there is still not necessarily the necessary infrastructure near your home. This problem is more serious especially outside the city or bigger cities.

But in fact, the main problem is the environment. Although electric cars themselves have no pollution, organic materials obtained from nature are used in the construction of their batteries that supply the power of the engine. The process of extracting these materials has a very bad biological effect on the earth.

Although electric cars are not perfect and may never be, they are the best option for eliminating pollution and dependence on fossil fuels, and the technology behind them is clearly evolving.
