Fajr Festival “Why don’t you cry?”; From the pit of absurdity to the well of vulgarity

Life group: You know that this year we went to the Fajr Film Festival with a meter and criteria to measure goodness, beauty and pleasant feelings, and we judged the films with this meter and criteria. Both the movies that we needed a few extra meters to measure their beauty and the movies that we didn’t even consider complete the first time.
The story is one of those movies that we don’t like to talk too much about. Check out the tips. Maybe you agreed with us…
Important points to remember
As we said in the previous reports, we in the “Life” group are not going to step into the shoes of movie critics and do technical reviews. So we have nothing to do with directing and acting. We want to examine the films through the lens of life and the keywords that are vital for us in our lifestyle and well-being, and finally see to what extent this year’s films are aligned with Iranian Islamic values and lifestyle.
We thought that maybe our dear companions in the life group would like to see the films of Fajr festival from the point of view of life and choose some of them to watch in the public screening.
the truth Do not worry about the story being revealed. We open the story to the extent that the film’s actors have said about the story in interviews and press conferences; except in dealing with details that do not harm the story and the end of the film.
What is the story about?
“Why aren’t you crying?” It is the story of a man who, after the death of his parents, takes care of his younger brother, and when he dies, the man experiences emptiness and a kind of disregard for life and the people around him. But his biggest problem is his inability to cry, and all his efforts and those around him are focused on solving this problem.
It seems that the goal was to make a philosophical comedy film, which, of course, was not realized and instead an amalgam of all kinds of anomalies and anti-cultural behavior was gathered. Let’s skip the generalities and go to the details of the movie.
Why are you undermining childbearing?
Teachings and words against having children in the movie “Why don’t you cry?” waves The main character of the film (Ali), who is against having children, says, “Why should we have children in this dirty world?”. The opposite party, who happens to insist on having children, gives an answer in line with Ali’s opinion: “The world has never been a good place for children!”.
In another part of the movie, Ali’s friend explains that when he had a problem with his wife, they decided to have a baby, and he continues, “When we had a baby, it was so terrible that we forgot all our problems.”
What’s so scary about having a baby? Why is the exact image of the country’s macro policies being advertised and promoted in the film, which is a tool for culture and message transmission? Why is there no monitoring of such issues in movies?
You have no right to mock religion!
In the movie, there is an aunt whose role was probably supposed to be played by Soraya Ghasemi or someone of that age, but when she didn’t accept, the role was given to Haniyeh Tausli! The aunt who is called “Duff” in the movie and of course with the same appearance, has the opinions of a “meeting lady” and speaks the words of a “pulpit”. This antithesis of the form and content of Amma (!), in some scenes of the film, has somehow caused ridicule and insult to religion and religious beliefs. Sometimes these issues are openly ridiculed.
For example, where Ali’s wife is telling a story about the rain prayer, Ali and a girl who has just met him, Ander Sufihi gives a wise look at Ali’s wife and says, “These stories are not interesting to us!”. Or somewhere else, in response to his aunt who talks about religious issues, Ali says, “These words are made up by the mullahs!”.
In another place, the aunt says to Ali, “Leave your problems with the divine court so that you can cry.” And to help Ali cry, he takes her to the board. Of course, there is still no success. We see a kind of irony and mockery in all of this.
If the film leads the audience to the conclusion that Ali’s statements are wrong, we could hope that the aim was not to insult religion. But unfortunately, this does not happen!
The vulgarity of a couple’s relationship!
When the caricature aunt of the movie finds out that Ali is in a relationship with a girl, she says, “Recite a code of privacy between yourselves so that you don’t fall into sin.” But in different scenes of the film, we see carelessness in connection with the forbidden in different ways. Without mentioning the guilt or hurtfulness of these communications. On the contrary, these connections are shown to be charming, heartwarming and saving.
Almost halfway through the film, we find out that Ali has a wife who does not live with him. In fact, before separating from his wife, he entered into a relationship with another person. At the same time that Ali’s wife is at home, the new girl also enters and in the next scene we see that a friendly relationship has developed between these two women.
Where in the world is the intimate relationship between the two heads of a love triangle, who have nothing in common except the man in question, normal? Don’t care about the world at all! In our own Iran, does the coming together of two people have any results other than cheating? Which woman do you know who loves and flirts with her husband’s lover like this? Unless you want to avoid such a tragedy!
Anyway, neither the character of Ali’s wife is real and believable nor the character of the new girl. In addition, basically, the role and form of the relationship between these two and Ali is not clear.
breaking the norm
The movie starts with Ali getting naked for no reason. In another scene, we see him and his friend in the pool, without this scene playing a role in the story. If only in this movie we saw naked nudity for no reason, maybe we would ignore it. But taking into account that there is an unnecessary and gratuitous scene of nudity in almost all the films of this year’s Fajr Festival, let us look at the issue more strictly. For example, from the point of view of defamation and normalization!
We may see more girls smoking in society these days than before. But fortunately, this stage has not been unlocked in many families. Portraying scenes of women smoking in movies helps break this norm.
In a part of the movie, in order to overcome the discomforts, forget the problems and feel euphoria, the drug and alcoholic drinks prescription is prescribed in such a way that a person unconsciously wants to implement this prescription at least once to see the result!
empty space of good feeling
We try, even with a magnifying glass, to pull the good sense out of the most bitter and vapid films. But sometimes our pen really remains idle and our eyes dry up to the cinema screen, while our “good feeling” section is left empty! Just like this movie…
From bitter dialogues to various manifestations of life full of emptiness and despair. For example, when the girl talks about the hope for the future and the beauty of life, the man replies: “The world is like the world of fairies!” That is, hope is equivalent to a fairy tale and a dream!
One of the examples of man’s vanity and despair is his desire to commit suicide and hang a rope from the ceiling of his room. Somewhere in the film, words are said that speak of an immoral soul that has reached a dead end. Like: “Life is cruel. “If you don’t kill, you will be killed.” And…
The man protesting his aunt’s concern says: “I want to do whatever I like, without worrying about anyone worrying about me. I don’t like anyone to depend on me and I don’t like to depend on anyone.” What place does this approach have in family life? Does this look come from a responsible and family-oriented person?
Put all these points aside from the point that such a character with the described characteristics is introduced as an attractive and so-called cool person!
