“Family”; A key factor in reducing the negative effects of social networks

“Zahra Hazrati Soomeh,” a faculty member, associate professor of sociology and vice chancellor for social sciences, communications and media at the Central Azad University of Tehran, said: “To reduce the negative effects of social media, we must look for a key factor called the family.” Let’s be. The family can have the necessary control, supervision and training in this space, provided that the families also receive the necessary training.

Communication and Media Azad University of Central Tehran, Zahra Hazrati Soomeh in a series of specialized meetings on Sohanak Mondays, Faculty of Social Sciences, Communication and Media, Central Tehran Branch on “Social Networks and the Transformation of Family Values” said: Today’s discussion is our networks Social and transformation of family elements is one of the topics of the day. It is true that today it is difficult to imagine life without technology and cyberspace, and the mass media has made significant progress, but the issue that has occupied the minds of those concerned about the family is the issue of the family and its values.

Regarding the definition of social networks, he added: “Virtual networks are one of the social media that collect, present, process and disseminate information.” The term social media was first coined by Barnes in 1954. Initially, the concept of social networks was a meaningful social relationship between people, but when technology was introduced with the development of new technologies, virtual networks with various functions emerged.

Faculty member and Vice Chancellor of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Communication and Media of Central Azad University of Tehran stated: Virtual social networks today are based on the Internet and text, audio and video services and provide data storage and sharing, as well as communication Available in this network is extensive, group and collective and in some parts can be voluntary and sometimes mandatory. Social networks allow the user to share their information with others and create a platform for communication with strangers.

Regarding the definition of value, Hazrati said: “Value is a relatively stable belief or belief that people rely on to embrace a specific behavior.” In sociology, social values are something that is accepted by all. According to George Ritzer, social values are among the immaterial social realities, and according to Smelser, social values are cultural standards that provide the desired general goals for organized social life.

He added: “In general, theorists propose three approaches in dealing with social networks; First, we need to take a positive view of social media, with Sherry, Turkel, and Stone commenting on the positive workings of social media. The second approach is a negative view of social media, in which Vienna, Katz, and Dreyfus have theorized that one’s identity is lost in the face of social media. The third approach believes that the media is moderate, in which Miller, Thompson, and Goffman have proposed theories and try to be somewhat moderate, and believe that the media as a tool has both positive and negative consequences.

A member of the faculty and vice chancellor of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Communication and Media of the Azad University of Tehran stated: Social and family values are different in traditional and modern societies. Our country is moving from tradition to modernity, and its changes are rapid and uncontrollable, which is why it has created disturbances in the values and culture of the society. Values have an underlying role for the society. And they can be the link between the culture of society and the next generation, and if we neglect it, we will face an identity crisis.

Noting that the role of social networks in society can not be denied, Hazrati said: “Family values are somehow influenced by social values.” Social relationships are the foundation of our society, and activists in relation to others strive to maintain existing values. It is true that the family is the first and smallest social institution, but it is considered as the largest social institution, so the role of the family in socialization and socialization is undeniable.

Asked why family values have changed, he continued: “Social networks, given their breadth and diversity, are influential in changing family values.” Today, the role of the media in individual, group and collective life is undeniable. The media has increased public awareness, accelerated the process of affairs, facilitated widespread social interactions, etc., but can usually have intangible consequences such as the dominance of Western culture, the weakening of cultural and social values, the spread of Western lifestyles, the promotion of consumerism, Changing reference patterns, reducing adherence to religious and traditional values, promoting Western coverage, weakening family ties, and intergenerational divide. In “McDonald’s Communityization,” George Ritzer describes the state of society today as McDonald’s restaurants, a public chain that changes people’s diets and promotes fast food. The widespread consumption of fast food causes the tables and tablecloths of families to be forgotten and the opportunity to gather together and communicate directly and intimately with families to be taken away.

The faculty member and vice chancellor of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Communication and Media of Tehran Azad University of Markaz stated: “We can not completely reject or confirm virtual social networks. There are many positive and negative effects in this area and we need to recognize the consequences and The development process of virtual social networks requires planners, managers and decision makers to understand the facts and gain sufficient and necessary knowledge and evaluate the governing and effective approaches of virtual social networks. To reduce the negative effects of social media, we must look for a key factor called the family. The family can have the necessary control, supervision and training in this space, provided that the families also receive the necessary training.
