According to the Mehr correspondent, next year’s Asian Games will be held from September 10 to October 20, while the world volleyball championship will be held from September 4 to 20, 1401. The overlap of two important events will be a new challenge for the Volleyball Federation, which requires the establishment of two national teams.
Akbar Naeini, a volleyball expert, told Mehr about the overlap between the Asian Games and the World Cup: “Strong Asian teams are making their main plans to participate in the World Cup.” A team like Japan tends to play strong in the World Cup, and they probably do not care about the interference of the Asian and World Games, because they will send their main team to the World Cup. Iranian volleyball should have the same view. When we want to be among the top 4 teams in the world, the Asian Games should not be more important to us than the World Cup, unless the federation, as in the past, seeks to justify possible defeats in the World Cup and thus ignores it by winning the Asian Games.
The Iranian volleyball veteran continued: Asian competitions in the world have a low level and winning these competitions is not worth it. It is logical that we should form two national teams with two separate coaches. Such players will be more motivated to try to be in the main team.
He added: “Players will not do less when they feel threatened to be in the first team because they know there is a replacement in the second team.” As far as I know, developed countries have several national teams in volleyball, such as Russia and Italy. Just as Italy did not play its main players in the League of Nations to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. We must also make the way of the developed countries our top priority.
Referring to the injured players of the national team, Naini said: “Injuries can happen to any athlete and team, but in Iranian volleyball, the national team is reduced to 5-6 players, which is wrong, and this number of players is always present in all competitions.” And we have not replaced one of them in case of injury or fatigue.
The Iranian volleyball veteran continued: Instead of looking for player development in the youth category, the federation uses the greenhouse method and selects a number of players who can become world champions. This method damages volleyball. Big teams like Russia, France and Brazil have a lot of players in the adult category, but the Iranian team participates in all the events with a limited number of players, and Iran is the only country that brings players to the national team as a greenhouse while in clubs. And the youth category, players grow up. That’s why we do not have the right support in the adult team.
He emphasized: The federation will definitely choose to participate in the Asian Games because it knows that it does not have the necessary technical ability to achieve a proper result in the world championships.
Regarding the selection of the head coach of the two national teams and the prevention of disputes, Naini said: “All these issues go back to the management of the federation.” The federation should not only think about training players. More important than training players is training coaches. When we do not have enough good coaches, we certainly can not develop good players. The result is that none of the Iranian coaches accept each other. Currently, there are some qualified coaches in Iran who can help the national team, but they were left out because they want full authority, and on the contrary, refereeing requires coaches, and because the great coaches do not do that, they They have left.
