Widespread fires and strong winds in Colorado have forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people in three cities in the state, according to Fars News Agency International Group.
According to CBS News, the fire and strong winds with a speed of 105 miles per hour destroyed about 600 residential houses, including hotels, shopping malls and other commercial buildings in the city of Denver.
The governor of Denver has declared a state of emergency in the area, with 1,600 hectares of land burning in the area’s day and night on Thursday, and said it is expected to intensify.
The U.S. Meteorological Agency has also warned of death threats in areas affected by the fire.
Previously, the deadliest fire in Colorado history was the 2013 Black Forest fire, which burned 14,280 acres of land and destroyed more than 511 homes.
At least one firefighter and six others have been injured since the blaze began on Thursday, CBS News reported.
Joe Paul, the mayor of Balder, a suburb of Denver, said the death toll was expected to rise as fires intensified throughout the region.
According to US media reports, 210,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in Louisville and 13,000 in Superior, a suburb of Balder.
