Flights carrying Afghan refugees to the United States resume

“I anticipate that flights will begin in the near future,” Gen. Glenn van Heerk, commander of the Pentagon’s North Command, told reporters, according to IRNA.

He added that due to the requirement of disease control and prevention centers that people leaving Afghanistan have to wait 21 days after vaccination, we will see the resumption of flights next week.

Earlier this month, the Biden government suspended flights of Afghan migrants to the United States after identifying several cases of measles outbreaks among migrants, and left thousands stranded at bases outside the United States.

More than 14,000 Afghans are still living abroad and are expected to be relocated to the United States, the U.S. military said in a statement.

According to US military figures, some 53,000 Afghan refugees who were relocated to the United States after the fall of Kabul are now stationed at eight US military bases.

Foreign and domestic flights were suspended after the fall of Kabul to the Taliban and continued with the complete withdrawal of US troops due to the destruction of Kabul airport systems and radars.

The Taliban, in cooperation with the governments of Qatar and Turkey, managed to solve these problems after nearly a month.
