Foreign Minister during Lavrov’s meeting: We oppose the imposition of sanctions and unilateral measures against Russia


Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia, met this evening (Wednesday) in Tunis, China, on the sidelines of the third meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries.

Amir Abdullahian continued: “We are happy that the relations between Iran and Russia are on the right track.” I would like to emphasize once again that we oppose the imposition of sanctions and unilateral measures against Russia.

The head of the diplomatic service noted: “I was informed that progress is being made in the developments in Ukraine in the direction of political dialogue. I hope to inform you about various issues in tonight’s talks and to hear the latest developments from you.”

He said: “Once again, I want to emphasize the important and privileged relations between the two countries.”

The Russian Foreign Minister also expressed his satisfaction with the meeting with Amir Abdullahian and his accompanying delegation, saying: “I recently met with you in Moscow and we discussed bilateral, regional and international issues.”

Lavrov continued: “We are interested in increasing comprehensive cooperation in all fields with our neighbors, especially Iran, and especially in cooperation issues such as the Caspian Sea.”

“In our contacts and interactions, a very special importance has been achieved and our bilateral relations will have an impact on the new order of international relations,” he said. We are witnessing an era when some parties are seeking to review the UN Charter and Charter. We see that the Western partners are trying to violate the independence and sovereignty and the principle of non-interference in the affairs of countries. One of the tools in the hands of these countries is sanctions.

“In relations with our neighbors and friends, we are trying to condemn these unilateral and illegal sanctions in the first phase, and to take effective measures in the second phase,” he said.

According to Fars, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country in this meeting welcomed the existing capacity building in the field of cooperation between the two countries in various fields and emphasized on the promotion of cooperation.

Explaining the priority of neighborhood policy from the perspective of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Amir Abdullahian noted the approach of serious cooperation with neighbors and rejected unilateral sanctions against countries.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, referring to his country’s interest in comprehensive cooperation with its neighbors, especially Iran, called the relations between the two countries of special importance and stressed his country’s readiness to develop cooperation with Iran.

Developments in Afghanistan and increasing cooperation between the two countries in this field, accelerating the membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Shanghai Organization, the latest status of the Vienna talks and close cooperation of the two countries in the process of talks and cooperation in the Caspian region are other topics discussed by the foreign ministers. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation were present at the meeting.

According to a Fars correspondent, the Iranian Foreign Minister had previously met with the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Qatar, Indonesia and Turkmenistan.
