Frost: The short film is an experience of form / death on close-up!

According to Fars News Agency, quoting the public relations of the Iranian Youth Cinema Association, the first session of the seventh season of the short film hangout took place yesterday, Monday, May 10, with the screening of the short fiction films “Mask” directed by Nova Rezvani, “Capsule” directed by Amir accepted, “Sin” directed Abolfazl Azizi and the short animation “Before Paradise” directed by Ahmad Heydarian were held at the Charso Cinema Campus, and after showing these works, they were reviewed in the presence of cinema critic Masoud Frost.
* The short film is the arena of “form” تجربه experience
Massoud Frost in the critique of the short film “Mask” made by Nova Rezvani, after the director’s explanations about his film, said: I am not very fond of “subject”. I do not understand that some people say that my subject is personal or social. I do not know the big or small issue. Because I believe that if any subject fits into the form of any film, it did the right thing, otherwise the filmmaker did not do the right thing. You may think that for a short film, there is a lot of talk about form, but I can introduce a lot of films in world cinema that happen to be formal. The short film is basically an experience of form.
The film critic said: I do not see any experience in the heart of “Mask”, I do not believe it in the work. The filmmaker has not lived the subject, if he has lived, a moment will take shape, a moment will pause, and so on. I have to experience this inner conflict. But there is no internal conflict in the film. I do not see this pressure or acceptance of opinion in the film, none of it is in the film. The end of the film is open again, from the end of the plays that Asghar Farhadi has and of course he does not know anything!
* Do not charge; I saw the movie until the end!
Frost continued: You see that I have seen the film to the end, do not accuse me so much, I will not see the film to the end! I must also say that the short film is not a springboard to the feature film, but an independent entity in itself.
Following the meeting, it was time to review the short film “Capsule” made by Amir Pazideh. . The fact that you had football experience is not a reason to make a film, I have had such experience, I do not even understand that from the football experience you had, you want to reach such a conclusion. I do not understand the son of the film and his fascist father, where does this father’s violence come from?
Babak Nouri, the actor of “Capsule”, said with hatred for his feelings and mood for playing the role of “Bad Father” in this film.
Reacting to Babak Nouri’s hatred and words, Frost explained: This is the flaw, he can not be bad, he who has the feeling in his hand can not be bad. Even remembering that moment makes this actor bad, he wants to make a bad general character but there is no bad general, this is one of the biggest problems of Iranian cinema.
* A movie that is not bad, but wasted
Then Abolfazl Azizi’s short film “Sin” was reviewed, about which Frost explained: “The film was not very bad. And we understood the victim, but we did not understand, the film should have lasted 45 minutes, it is not a matter of throwing at all. However, some sequences are missing.
Addressing the director, Frost said: “You were afraid of losing the audience, you had a rich experience, you know the technique, except for the camera in your hand, which I do not know why you used. It could have been a very serious experience but the film was wasted, “Sin” could have been a good film.
* Death on close-up!
In the review section of the short film “Before Heaven” by Ahmad Heydarian, Frost said: “This film does not have the issue of Palestine at all. I am not saying that a work should have” Long live Palestine “, but a film that does not discuss Palestine should not have those slogans. Write at the end.
He continued: the part of painting on the wall in this film is good, it is a pity that someone who knows how to make that painting on the wall portrays that male character. In this film, everything is on the air except that wall and those paintings, the film has even destroyed them, sometimes it has good contrasts, but the violence that it imposes on the painter destroys it. The next point is death on close-up! Even Bergman sometimes makes mistakes in close-ups, close-ups really require knowledge!
Heidarian, while explaining about his film, asked Frost: My question to you is what should I have done to make my character better?
“You should not have done what you did in the film,” Frost said. Stupid close-ups do not make the film believable.
