Germany seeks to import gas from Iraq

According to the correspondent of Fars News Agency, citing Reuters, reports show that Germany is negotiating with Iraq to import gas from this country. The action of this European country is done in the direction of diversifying gas supply sources and actually finding an alternative to Russian gas.
Olaf Schultz, the Prime Minister of Germany, said in this regard that we discussed the import of gas from Iraq to Germany and it was agreed to have a close relationship with each other in this field.
Iraq has also offered investment to German companies and wants to export its gas to Europe through a pipeline in Turkey.
Al-Mayadeen news agency reported that German companies want to solve the gas flaring problem in Iraq.
After the start of Russia’s military conflict with Ukraine, both the Russian side has significantly reduced gas exports to Germany, and Germany has announced that it will reduce gas imports from Russia as much as it can.
Of course, the German chancellor did not talk about the details and volume of gas that this country hopes to import from Iraq.
Before the rise of tension between Germany and Russia, this country used to import 55% of its gas from Russia.
