“Global Journalism” in Iran’s book market

According to IRNA reporter, in the introduction of this book, we read: The phenomenon of globalization has been deeply transforming journalism in the last few decades. In the course of this development, the main emphasis has been on the effects of new technologies both in the academic environment and in the professional environment (journalistic work).

International journalism or, more correctly, global journalism is closely related to the phenomenon of globalization, and global interconnections have created important and fundamental challenges for the journalism profession: how to distinguish between global current affairs and conventional genres of news? What are the most important responsibilities and problems faced by journalists in the globalized public sphere? Do audiences connect with global issues in the news, get involved in these issues? And why is this important? Do these developments indicate the emergence of world news as a paradigm in journalism that is different from the conventional concepts of “international news” or “foreign reporting”?

The book of global journalism as a new educational resource tries to answer these questions and more in its 17 chapters.

In the first chapter of this book and in the theoretical framing of the issues, the author emphasizes that the concept of global journalism is a relatively new concept because this concept itself appeared with the process of globalization. In this way, we can trace the term Global journalism by examining its predecessor international journalism, Let’s follow to the 21st century.

He defines global journalism as journalism produced in a specific media system, which is usually a media system at the national level, which is woven into a regional and global network.

“Although in the past decades, thinkers have presented a diverse set of media systems, but there is no single and clear framework based on which we can classify media systems in different countries of the world. However, the existing models and theoretical frameworks can help us in categorizing and better understanding the difference of media in different countries and regions of the world.

In different chapters of the book, these models and frameworks have been used to describe the state of the media in different regions of the world, but there was no insistence on the definite inclusion of the media institutions of all countries and regions of the world in the framework of these theories, but an attempt has been made to take advantage of this Theories make the study of media systems easier and more tangible for readers, especially students of journalism and communication.
