Google plans to remove about 1 million apps from the Play Store to increase the safety of Android 13 users. See full details below.

At a later date this year, Google will take serious action against the nearly 900,000 forgotten apps in the Play Store. According to analyst firm Pixalate, the Google Play Store has approximately 869,000 applications that have not been updated in the past two years or more and are security-threatening. For this reason, around the release of the new version of its operating system, Android 13, Google is trying to remove them to ensure its maximum security.

Google Play Store

According to CNET, those Android apps in the Google Play Store that have not received updates in the past two years or more will be hidden from search results or removed from the platform altogether. If these apps are hidden from search results, they will probably still be available for download to users who already have them. If they are removed completely, no one will be able to access them.

Around the time of the release of Android 13 for Pixel phones in November, 1 million inactive Android apps will be hidden or removed from the Play Store.

Google Play Store and Apple Store

It is worth mentioning that Apple has also taken an approach to its proprietary platform. According to analysts, the App Store has nearly 650,000 inactive applications, and Apple has put a ban on public access to them on the agenda. Of course, Apple’s solution to this problem is not as clear as Google, but some iOS developers have claimed that Apple intends to completely remove obsolete applications from its platform.
