Gotham 2023 announced its winners / “Past Lives” became the best film



“Past Lives” was the big winner at the 2023 Gotham Awards, taking home the award for Best Picture.

Charso Press: According to Variety, while the Gotham Awards 2023 recognized its winners in a ceremony held last night, it presented its best film award to Celine Song’s “Past Lives”. Meanwhile, Charles Melton won supporting roles in Todd Haynes’ “May December” and Lily Gladstone won for her role in “The Unknown Country.”

This year, “We’re All Strangers,” directed by Gotham’s Andrew Hague, received four nominations. Celine Song’s “Past Lives” and Rockwell’s “One Thousand and One” were next with three nominations each. Both dramas were nominated for the best feature film along with “Show”, “Passages” and “Reality”. In the category of the best international film, “All of Us Strangers”, “Anatomy of a Fall”, “Poor People”, “Totem” and “Favorite Zone” were contenders for the award.

Although Gotham celebrates independent films, it dropped its $35 million budget cap this year; However, most of the contenders were still independent or art films, although some larger productions such as “Barbie” entered the competition. Gotham has also changed its categories for acting awards, and starting in 2021, it will no longer award Best Actor based on gender.

In addition to the competitive awards, the Gotham Awards, as previously announced, also honored several films: “Full Moon Killers” received the Gotham Landmark and Creator Tribute, “Barbie” received the Universal Icon and Creator Tribute, “Ferrari” was honored with the innovation symbol award, “Rastin” was honored with the cultural symbol award and respect for social justice, “Air” was honored with the visionary symbol award and “Maestro” was honored with the cultural symbol award and the creator’s honor.

At this ceremony, Michael Mann, who received his award from the actor Adam Driver of “Farari”, presented it to the late screenwriter Troy Kennedy Martin and said: “He was really the heart and core of the innovation of this film.”
