Grossi has claimed that the IAEA has cut ties with Ukraine’s nuclear power plant

According to Fars News Agency’s International Group, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) claimed on Wednesday night that Tehran had once again lost its connection to the remote monitoring systems at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.

According to the website «International Atomic Energy AgencyRafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said the organization had once again lost the remote connection to safeguard systems installed at Ukraine’s nuclear power plant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has not been able to visit the plant since the start of the military conflict in Ukraine, Grossi said in a statement. Russian forces took control of the plant nearly four months ago, but Ukrainian personnel continue to operate there.

“The fact that our remote safeguards data transfer was stopped again for the second time last month only adds to the urgency of sending our supervisors,” Grossi said, claiming that the plant was in a difficult situation and that it would affect safety and security.

Meanwhile, Russia Atom, Russia’s state-owned nuclear power company, has said that its experts are providing technical assistance to Ukrainian specialists at the Chernobyl and Zaporizhia nuclear power plants.

Earlier this month, the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Ukrainian operator of the plant worked together to remotely transfer safe data from the plant to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters after a technical hiatus of almost two weeks. Data for this period were also retrieved.

According to Grossi, inspectors can only perform the necessary verification work if they are present at the facility.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Grossi had discussed ensuring the physical protection and operation of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities.

In addition, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko recently stated that he had instructed experts to provide electricity to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, near the Belarusian border. (More details)
