Grossi: Talks with Russia on the security of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities were constructive

According to Fars News Agency’s International Service, “Rafael Grossi,” the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, on Thursday night described the talks with the Russian side to ensure the security of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities as constructive.
“We talked about nuclear and other facilities in Ukraine,” Grossi told reporters, according to RIA Novosti. We are looking for a way to ensure security. “There is no problem with that, and the meetings were constructive.”
The IAEA Director General noted that no decision has been taken on the tripartite meeting between the UN body and the Russian and Ukrainian sides, but that discussions will continue.
In a Twitter message this evening, Grossi thanked Turkey for hosting a discussion on the status of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants and announced a meeting with the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister.
He announced on Tuesday that “remote data transmission from safeguard systems installed at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has been lost.” He added that the agency was examining the status of safeguards systems in other parts of Ukraine and would provide more information soon.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Grossi had discussed ensuring the physical protection and operation of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities.
In addition, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has stressed that he has instructed experts to ensure the supply of electricity to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, near the Belarusian border.
