Grounding of 52 “V-22 Asprey” planes of the US Air Force
According to Fars International News Group, the American media reported on Wednesday night Tehran time that the Special Operations Command of the United States Air Force has grounded all 52 of its “V-22 Asprey” aircraft indefinitely and as a result of the increasing number of safety incidents.
According to the websiteBreaking DefenseU.S. Air Force Special Operations Command spokeswoman Col. Becky Hayes said the safety freeze was ordered Tuesday following two safety incidents in the past six weeks.
According to Hayes, the gearbox of one of the two engines of the Rolls-Royce plane is slipping for an unknown reason. He said: “The safety of our pilots is of utmost importance, so no aircraft of this type will operate until we determine the cause of this problem.”
The V-22 Asprey is the first US military aircraft that can take off vertically and hover like a helicopter. During its 30 years of operation, this military aircraft has created controversy due to a history of a wide range of safety issues that sometimes lead to accidents and fatalities. Most recently, one such aircraft crashed in Norway in March 2022, killing four Marines.
Earlier, American media reported that the US Air Force is temporarily grounding about 300 of its training aircraft due to concerns that their ejection seats will not fire properly when necessary.
U.S. Air Force spokeswoman Erin Lockhart confirmed last Thursday that it has grounded training jets that may be affected by faulty ejection seat components. This includes about 40 percent of the T-38 fleet and 15 percent of the T-6 fleet, including aircraft at each undergraduate pilot training base and Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida.
Earlier, media sources reported the grounding of a number of American fifth generation fighters due to the lack of engine spare parts.
A shortage of spare parts may ground some F-35 fighter jets as repairs to a key component for the costliest U.S. fighter jet take longer than planned, according to Bloomberg News. (More details)
