Guterres: The Olympics are an opportunity to overcome differences and build lasting peace



“In the next few days, our human families will be reunited for the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a message on Friday ahead of the Chinese Winter Olympics.

He stated that athletes from all over the world will attend this historic event while maintaining a spirit of mutual understanding, hard work and fair play.

The UN Secretary-General said the “Olympic ceasefire” calls on all parties to renounce hostilities during the Games. As conflict escalates and tensions escalate, these games represent an opportunity to overcome differences and find paths to lasting peace.

“As we work to end the Corona epidemic, let us unite for a safer, more prosperous and sustainable future for all,” Guterres said.
