How Iranian silk shines in the world’s silk taropod

According to the economic reporter of Fars news agency, silk spinning and cocoon production sector, as a large industry in the country, which once provided the silk thread needs of Europeans, is now struggling with many problems and the country has become an importer of silk threads, the factories are bankrupt. and quality Iranian silks have been replaced by low-quality Chinese threads.
He, who was a silk thread producer himself many years ago, has now given up his work. He said: Imports have been the main reason for the reduction of silk production in the country and the stoppage of large factories. Even now, this import continues and the import is done when the cocoons are harvested.
Stating that the import mafia is involved in this issue, Janabi said: “There are some people who put pressure on the government and force them to import, and this issue has brought the country’s silk industry to the ground.”
He added: In 1984, the country produced 220,000 boxes of Noghan annually, which has now reached 5,000 boxes, while the country’s need is 45,000 boxes per year, and it is forced to import the rest.
He, who used to have a cocoon drying factory, says: Now cocoon production is not economically justified for producers. Imports have broken their backs and now they cannot stand.
According to Janabi, expert experts have left this industry during this period, and now second and third grade experts are working in this field who do not have a proper understanding of this industry.
Janabi says: On the other hand, the indiscriminate invasion of big cities and the construction of villas in the northern region have increased the price of agricultural land, and many farmers prefer to sell their land to cities instead of producing with little income. Each meter of land has become 5 million tomans, while a farmer in the best case earns 20 million tomans from one hectare of Noghan cultivation land, because the production costs are very high.
He continued: Many factories have gone bankrupt in the past years. One of the big factories in Gilan province has been revived by the judiciary last year after dozens of years, but the support of this trade must be continued so that these factories continue to operate.
According to this activist of the silk industry, imports from China are third grade fibers that are mixed with Iranian cocoons and used in factories.
Janabi said about the production problems: farmers still produce in the traditional way and are not familiar with the current world science. On the other hand, applying small import tariffs causes a flood of imports to flow into the country. The import tariff, which used to be 500%, has now been reduced to 10%.
He says: The government should give cheap loans to the producers of this sector and support knowledge-based companies in this field by creating engineering working groups.
He mentioned the low yield of imported Noghan eggs as another obstacle to production and said: In 1971, a box of Japanese Noghan eggs had a yield of 60 kilos, while now Chinese eggs have a yield of about 10 to 15 kilos.
Stating that Iran was once a major exporter of Asian and European countries, he said: During the Safavid era, Iran exported to Japan and Germany, but during these years, due to neglect, we became a major importer.
Janabi stated that due to lack of attention to breeding, the quality of domestic products has also become low, and said: “Now in the market, no one is willing to buy Iranian silk threads, because the quality and size of the threads do not match the needs of the factories.”
According to this silk union activist, at one time 23 thousand households in Langrod and 180 thousand households in Gilan made a living from the silk industry, while now only 5 thousand households are employed in Gilan province.
In the end, Janabi requested that the silk industry, which was once the home of the best carpets in Iran and the world, be revived again, which can inject multiple added value into the country’s economy.
