How much does reducing energy consumption in hotels reduce costs?

According to the social reporter of Moj news agency, despite the fact that the hotel industry is one of the most profitable industries in different countries of the world and the number of luxury hotels in countries with a high rate of tourist acceptance is increasing day by day, hotel industry in our country has never been able to become one of the income generating giants. transformed and prosperous.

This industry in our country, especially after the outbreak coronavirus which caused a loss of 6 thousand billion to the hoteliers, he was hit hard and still could not recover from this huge loss!

The main challenges are the decrease in the number of foreign tourists entering the country, along with the decrease in the average income of the people, the development of guest houses, the quality management of most hotels, etc., have caused the hotel industry in Iran to be not good.

In addition to the main challenges, minor issues that are less visible have also caused losses to hotels. One of these cases is the lack of “proper energy management”, which results in billions of monthly expenses for hotels.

In this regard, Ali Ezzati, an expert in tourism and hotel management, told Moj reporter: Thermal imbalance, or in other words, the lack of thermal comfort, the use of old equipment and high energy consumption in hotels, have caused hoteliers to pay high costs.

He continued: Statistics show that 38-45% of the energy used in hotels is wasted, which means that half of the money a hotel spends on electricity, gas, etc., is unnecessary. This is despite the fact that if the architecture of our hotels is correct, the efficiency of energy consumption can be increased by 73%.

This expert considered correct architecture to be the key to reducing energy consumption and said: To optimize energy consumption in tourism facilities and especially hotels, from the beginning of design to the end of operation, that is, in each of the stages of design, start of implementation, operation and also renovation. It is possible to minimize energy consumption by using the right method. Of course, if these methods are implemented at the very beginning of hotel design, it will lead to better results.

Ezzati stated: For example, in some of our hotels, the restaurant is located on the highest floor and the kitchen is located on the lowest floor. Now, calculate how much energy is used to carry food in the elevator!

He also considered the old heating and cooling facilities as a reason for the increase in energy consumption and stated: Some of these facilities are very old and unfortunately, because most of our hoteliers spend the money on reviving and renovating the hotel, they are not equipped or replaced. The equipment is careless and they only spend money on the facility if it breaks down and the customer is blown away!

The hotel industry expert added: This is despite the fact that if it is spent once to replace the equipment, the reduction in cost resulting from the reduction of energy waste will be much more than the cost of replacing it.

Ezzati stated: Currently, the world is moving towards green tourism, and topics such as compensating airplane flights, traveling with reusable water bottles, eliminating paper tickets, and promoting responsible tours have been raised with the same goal. Staying in green hotels is another method that can be a good advertisement for our hotels at the international level.

He pointed out: One of the requirements of a green hotel is optimal energy consumption, which our hotels must take steps in this direction.
