How popular are China / Tesla electric car sales in China?


Tesla, the maker of electric vehicles, sold more than 56,000 vehicles in China in September 2021, according to TradeNews. These cars are manufactured by Tesla’s factory in China, and the company’s highest sales since the start of production of Tesla cars in Shanghai, ie two years ago.

Quoted from Reuters, 3853 of these vehicles were exported in September.

Tesla, which makes the Model 3 and Y Sport sedans, sold 44,000 Chinese-made Teslas in August. The company had exported 31,000 of these vehicles.

Chinese manufacturers of electric vehicles, including the Nio and Xpeng, each launched 10,000 vehicles. Volkswagen also sold 10,000 electric vehicles in September.

Total sales of electric vehicles in China were 1.6 million units, down 17% from last year.
