How was Nematullah Georgia’s daughter freed?

As much as Nematullah Gurji had a warm presence in acting, he also thought about his family. For this reason, when it was decided to have a meeting with Imam Khomeini (RA), all he thought and mentioned was to raise the issue of his daughter with the Imam and to get his only child out of prison.

Charso Press: Today, the 9th of April, is the birthday of Nematullah Georgia. In the period when the media and virtual space were not so widespread, Georgia was one of the popular actors of the people.

On the occasion of this day, we review one of his life adventures.

This memory is republished with the quote of Reza Karam Rezaei, actor, director and translator. In his memoirs titled “All My Friends”, he wrote about one of the events in the life of Nematullah Gurji:

“Hazrat Imam liked the series “Shah Dezd” and wanted the production team to see it. The eldest daughter of Nematullah Gurji, one of the actors, was a political prisoner at that time. A Georgian had written a letter and wanted to give it to the Imam. At the end of the imam’s speech, a person who was next to the imam took the letter from a Georgian and a few days later the Georgian girl was released.

Georgia was an old and very hard-working actor. People loved it too. He was a humble and very clear, simple and generous person. Maybe that was the reason why he couldn’t get a house for his family with all that work in the theater, cinema and television, and he lived in a rented house until the end. »

Nematullah Gurji Safat, known as Nematullah Gurji, son of Hossein, was born in Tehran on April 9, 1305. In his youth, he joined the traveling groups of these shows and spent some time performing in the cities. After returning to Tehran, he worked in “Barbad Community”, “Nasr” and “Dehghan” theaters. Playing in television series in the early fifties, including “Love Story” and “Bitter and Sweet” made him famous in this field.

In the late 40s, he played in the movie “Thirdbad of Life” and then in movies such as “Tangsir” directed by Amir Naderi, “Khak” and “Gozenha” by Masoud Kimiyai, “Shabh Khazdam” by Kianoush. Ayari, “Blue Scarf” directed by Rakhshan Bani Etamed, “Abor Az Ghbar” directed by Pouran Derakhshandeh and… played roles. One of the most lasting roles of a Georgian in the seventies was his short but memorable role as a gardener in the movie “Pear Tree” directed by Dariush Mehrjoui, which was made in 1976.

Although he was a popular and capable actor, he was an example of actors who, despite his efforts, could not provide comfort for himself and his family, to the point where he stated in an article that driving a taxi is more economical than acting in movies.

He died on the 17th of April 1379 due to illness at the age of 74. Nematullah Gurji and Mohammad Ali Fardin died together in one day.
