HP this year alongside the Omen Transcend 14, an Omen Transcend 16 Updated with Intel Raptor Lake-HX Refresh processors It also offers Core i7-14700HX and Core i9-14900HX. This year’s HP Omen Transcend 16 laptop ditches the mini-LED option and instead offers a 240Hz QHD+ OLED as the top configuration, which can be considered one of the most significant changes to the device.

Omen Transcend 16 still carries some of the weaknesses of the previous generation
HP replaced the popular Omen 16 line with the Omen Transcend 16 last year. But this year, according to what it showed off at CES 2024, the Omen Transcend 16 laptop will see several hardware changes, but likely inherit some of the issues we noticed with last year’s presentation.
The first major change we see this year is the absence of a mini LED panel option. Instead, HP has chosen to equip the Transcend 16 with an OLED panel as its best offering. Buyers can choose between QHD+ OLED and IPS panels, along with an FHD+ IPS option. The QHD+ OLED supports a variable refresh rate of 240-48Hz with a 0.2ms response time. The panel is rated for brightness of 400 nits in SDR mode and up to 500 nits in HDR.
But in terms of the central processor, Omen Transcend 16 will enter the market with 14th generation Intel Raptor Lake-HX Refresh processors including Core i7-14700HX and Core i9-14900HX. For graphics processors, this laptop will be supported with Nvidia RTX 4060, GeForce RTX 4050 and RTX 4070 options. The Transcend 16 can be configured with up to 32GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and an NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD of up to 2TB. HP once again seems to offer only one SSD slot with no room for further expansion, which is one of the weaknesses it has inherited.

Unlike the Omen Transcend 14, the Transcend 16 offers two Thunderbolt 4 ports, but both USB Type-A ports are unfortunately limited to 5Gbps. An HDMI 2.1 output, gigabit LAN and a combined audio jack provide users with a relatively complete set of required ports. In addition to Gigabit LAN, the Omen Transcend 16 has an optional Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE200 network with Bluetooth 5.4. A 97 WHr battery powers the internals and lasts for 10.5 hours during FHD video playback.

The HP Omen Transcend 16 laptop will be available in black and white ceramic options on January 10 at HP.com for $1,899.99.
