Identification of 12 settlement areas in Lake Urmia

According to the public relations report of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Research Institute, Reza Mehrabi, the head of the Archeology Board on November 17, 1401, announced this news and called Chahar Burj one of the newly established cities of West Azerbaijan province, which is located in the south of Lake Urmia.
This archaeologist added: “Despite having a special geographical location and enjoying a special natural landscape, the area under study has high capacities in the formation and cultural development of prehistoric and historical societies, but unfortunately, it has not yet been investigated and identified methodically by archeology. In general, in terms of archaeological research, it is a little-known region.”
Mehrabi added: “In this regard, a delegation led by the author from the General Administration of Cultural Heritage of West Azerbaijan province, with the permission of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, was sent to this area and conducted an archaeological investigation.”
The head of the archeology board stated: “The aforementioned research project was carried out with the aim of identifying the settlement sites and determining the relative chronology of the region, determining the position of the studied region in the archaeological studies of the northwest area and preparing a distribution map of the artifacts in order to complete the archaeological map of the country.”
Stating that the investigated area is a flat plain with an area of about 310 square kilometers, which was investigated with an intensive survey method, he said: “As a result of this investigation, 12 settlements belonging to the Bronze Age, the historical era (Parthian and Sasanian) and the Islamic era were identified. “
