Identification of 200 tangible, natural and intangible heritage priorities for global registration

According to Aria’s Heritage Reporter, Ali Darabi, Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage and Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, in the “World Register and its Achievements” meeting, which was held on the pretext of the global registration of 54 historical caravanserais, before noon today – Tuesday, October 4, 1402 – at the Persian Gulf Hall of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Research Institute. , said: The global registration of 54 historical caravanserais is a valuable act and a great honor, and with the registration of 54 caravanserais, the number of Iran’s world registration works increased to 27; Therefore, I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to all those involved, experts and administrators who worked hard to record these works.

Darabi continued: The caravanserais are a symbol of the architecture and urban planning of our ancestors, which at that time were the shelter of our countrymen from the heat and cold. However, when we look at these caravanserais now, we witness the narration of the intellectual and cultural thought of Iranians. For this reason, when the case of Iranian caravanserais was brought up in the meeting, it was met with the consensus of the members and 21 positive votes and it became a global record, and the members of the meeting continuously encouraged this architectural art for the honor of Iran and Iranians.

The deputy of the country’s cultural heritage said: “In Iran, we have more than 1,000 caravanserais, 700 of which are nationally registered, and in the recent UNESCO list, 54 caravanserais were registered globally, and many provinces of the country have gained global influence.”

What are the benefits of global registration?

He went on to raise the question of what is the benefit and result of the global registration and added: The global registration is a credit for every society and its national wealth. Registering works in UNESCO means the property of a country. There is also a significant relationship between global sites and tourism development and increasing tourist attraction.

Darabi added: This is despite the fact that the global registration of a work has a meaning, and when a work is registered globally, all people consider themselves obligated to protect it. Along with the increase in heritage literacy and the attention of the general public to the preservation and introduction of cultural and historical works, the global registration of a work makes people pay special attention to their legacy.

In another part of his speech, the Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage said: Cultural heritage has its roots in beliefs, customs and rituals and expresses the identity, personality and dignity of a nation. Especially in the field of intangible heritage, paying attention to this issue plays an important role in creating peace discourse. In addition, cultural heritage is unifying and all members of the society respect their cultural assets.

We are transparent and we don’t have a golden signature. In another part of his speech, Darabi pointed out the importance of transparency and added: We believe in the transparency and glass building of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, and that’s why we dealt with issues such as monopoly and golden signatures that were said to have been in this ministry.

Referring to the compilation of the 10-year cultural heritage vision document, he added: “For the next 10 years, we have reviewed the priorities of global registration and counted about 200 cases, and we are currently reviewing them to reach a better consensus with the consultation of experts.”

Darabi said: Here we invite all those who are qualified and have the knowledge and ability to help us in this field to participate. In this regard, a system will be launched soon and we invite qualified people to help in the process of compiling the files.

Absurd claims about national and global registration

He clarified: Sometimes it is heard that people in the provinces claim that if you want your case to be registered nationally or internationally, refer it to us! While I announce through this platform, we do not have such a procedure.

At the end of his speech, the deputy of the country’s cultural heritage noted: Cultural heritage is an endless field and no matter how much we invest in this field, it is not enough. Iran is one of the top 10 countries in the field of tangible and intangible heritage.

Darabi reminded: the activity in the field of cultural heritage is not complete and it is similar to two reliefs where each runner passes the torch to the next person. We must develop kindness and harmony in order to witness the development of cultural heritage and introduce the capacities of this field.
