Charso Press: Adel Bezdodeh – writer, puppet show director and puppet maker – whose name has been placed next to memorable puppet shows such as “Zee Zee Golo”, “Shahr Moushha” and “Grandmother’s House”, in a conversation with ISNA, about the state of television puppet shows. He talked about the reasons for the failure of the new TV dolls and the factors that made the doll sets of the previous decades last.
In this interview, Bezdode also mentioned the reason for his absence on TV.
Adel Bezdode in response to what was the most important reason for not making successful doll series on TV in recent years? He said: One of the reasons is that puppet series are no longer made for television. If a plan was made, what thought and idea were these dolls made with? The reason for the weakness of the created works is that the position of the dolls in those programs was not correct.
Puppet maker “Zi Zi Golo”, about how to make successful puppet programs in the previous decades, reminded: the support of what we did was thought and ideas; Its support was based on cultural moments, reasoning was for children and teenagers. We knew how to work for which age group to have an educational impact and at the same time provide them with happy moments. But now these programs do not have any of these features because the people behind them do not think about these issues at all to produce work.
He continued: For all the projects that we wanted to work on for children and teenagers, whether in cinema or on television, we held several meetings before the work was made. We used to examine the reasons for choosing the subject, text and character and had discussions about it. Then, with full knowledge, we were looking for what we want to make now. After that, just in the stage of what to build, we were fighting a lot so that our output would preserve the dignity and reputation of Iran and ourselves and determine credibility for the children. Now, which of these programs determines credit for children? Their output is that only a bunch of dolls are made. A bunch of people who do not have the slightest theoretical, practical or research experience under any circumstances come and do this; Well, it is clear that most of the programs are weak and worthless.
Bezdodeh did not accept the justification of some of the creators of the current children’s program on television, that “one of the reasons why children today do not connect with television is the availability of various media and the variety of programs on satellite networks” and emphasized: “No, it is not like that.” We are more experienced now. Our experiences can bring families together, especially children. But unfortunately (TV managers) only see themselves and think that they are the most passionate and are at the highest level in any case. If we have their output, we will see it.
This artist answered that: “In line with the repeated emphasis of the head of broadcasting on the unimpeded presence of artistic capitals on television and welcoming their return to this medium, does he also have a desire to return to television or has he been discussed with him on this matter?” ?’ He said: There is no point in talking! If they want a job, they have the phone number and address of Bzdodeh’s house; It doesn’t matter, they call and say, Bzdode, come here, Mrs. Borumand, come, Mr. Jabali and Mr. Tahmasab, get up and come to the TV. What’s wrong with it? When did they call and we didn’t answer?! Now, at the age of 60, I will not allow anyone to disrespect me anymore. We spent a lifetime for Iran and television, now they have to make us laugh. Who is to blame? We? We know what we are doing. If they ask us for work, in the name of Allah; They want a good job, in the name of Allah. We used to work with little money, now they don’t give us the same money. I do not know why? Ask these noble gentlemen and educated TV managers why they made these events happen.
Bezdodeh stated at the end: “Before, I could say that they don’t know what they are doing, but now I can say with certainty that they deliberately kept us away from the television space that is in the homes of families.” Why should Mr. Tahmasab go out of TV and do something for an adult? Why should he do this at all? Why should Mrs. Broumand create the “Kalileh and Demaneh” doll series outside of television? That too in such a situation that foreign media provide children with content as much as they want. You should ask these reasons to the high-level managers of any network that can produce puppet series.
