At what price are imported cars marketed?
Not long ago, in a conversation with Emad Jafari, an expert in the automobile industry, Tejarat News stated: The price of imported cars to Iran is not known. Because the government has not yet announced the correct tariff to the people. The important point regarding the price of imported cars is that after importing the cars, the importing companies earn a profit of 15% and sell them on the commodity exchange.
He emphasized: Cars produced in the country are sold at three times the price in the open market, but the car that is going to be imported costs $20,000, including transportation costs, tariffs, importer’s interest and 40,000 tomans. Less than three billion tomans will not reach the people.
This auto industry expert continued: If the supply of imported cars to the commodity exchange is like the supply of domestically produced cars, they will be sold at an unbelievable price. For example, a car like Dignity that cost 930 million Tomans was traded at the price of 2 billion Tomans. Now imagine that the imported cars that the market has been waiting for for a long time and there is a lot of demand for them will be sold at what price?
Jafari added: With the method that the Ministry of Security has adopted for the supply of cars, the cars reach the customers at a higher price. In the discussion of the sale of domestically produced cars, the profit goes to the pockets of car manufacturers. But in the supply of imported cars in the commodity exchange, the profit goes to the government’s pocket. As a result, it is expected that imported cars will reach customers at a higher price.
