Importing a 5-year-old used car is an alternative to the car import plan?! / Sanctions do not even allow us to import used cars

This issue has been raised many times and has not yet been implemented, and now we have to wait and see if the 13th government will implement this issue or not. To further investigate this issue, we had a conversation with Babak Sadraei, an expert on the car market, which is as follows.
Sadraei said: The issue of importing second-hand cars has existed for years, but every time it has been rejected due to a series of reasons, such as maybe not interesting for the country. This time they have come to the conclusion that with these conditions for importing cars, such as the $20,000 ceiling they have set, the embargo situation and the companies that do not give us cars, or we have to find them with difficulty from the surrounding countries, and the market needs 100,000 units. doesn’t fix it, if they import a second-hand car that has both a larger number and a variety of models, the sanctions sensitivity will decrease.
He added: But the problem with importing used cars is how we want to import this number from neighboring countries. They implemented the car import plan so unplanned that the more we move forward, the problems and problems will increase and they have no choice but to come and talk about the import of a 5-year-old second-hand car as an alternative option.
This car market expert continued: In my opinion, the foreign car of 15 years ago is less polluting than the Iranian zero-kilometer car, and assuming import, we will finally import the car produced in 2018. It is AD and it is 20 years behind foreign technology; Therefore, second-hand cars polluting is not a logical and convincing reason.
Sadraei said: Of course, the second-hand car has its own challenges; It is not an easy task to supply this number of cars, that they are healthy, and that they are worth entering the country, and the next issue is that at the same time as these enter Iran, the volume of consumable parts will increase in the country, because these will last a lifetime. There are those who need consumable parts. However, importing foreign cars, such as 2018, 2019, and 2020 models, will benefit the people more than bringing low-quality Chinese cars called imported cars to the country.
He clarified: In case of importing second-hand cars, we have to import them from countries such as Armenia, Oman, Turkey, Qatar, Iraq, Georgia, and the UAE, and importing Korean and Japanese second-hand cars is more affordable and reliable. But as for which countries to import from, we are in trouble due to the sanctions and we do not have the power to choose. If we bring a non-Chinese car, it will enter the country with thousands of problems, which of course cannot have a large volume. If you look at the same import, 20,000 Changan and 2,000 Kia are imported, which shows that they are more open to Chinese cars, and of course, Changan is one of the high-quality Chinese cars and is not so different from Japanese and Korean cars. There are news that there are negotiations to import second and third grade Chinese cars, which can be dangerous and deserves more consideration.
Regarding the import of used cars from other countries, this car market expert said: This happens in countries that do not have global connections or have low financial capabilities. At one time, it was done in the newly independent countries of the Soviet Union, such as Armenia and Georgia, and these countries imported used cars from Germany and the European Union.
Sadraei said about the amount of demand for second-hand cars among the people in case of imports: We have to see what brands and models are imported and at what prices. For example, if Benz 2018 is introduced, because there is a vacuum for this car, there will definitely be a demand. We are talking in a situation where we are not a normal country that has access to global communications; We are in trouble and we don’t have the power to choose the arrangement of imported cars. In addition, we have internal self-sanctions that we have set the engine volume and price ceiling, and communication is difficult for the country globally, and with these conditions, we have to search and find the cars we want from the region.
He added: Currently, the demand for cars has increased in the world, because due to the lack of microprocessors affected by the war between Russia and Ukraine, the supply of cars has been delayed and the delivery time of zero-kilometer cars has been extended, and this has caused the second-hand car market in countries such as Emirates, Canada and some European countries will be heated.
This car market expert said: “Unfortunately, in our country, some ignorant and uninformed people propose a series of things without research, for example, we should import 100,000 cars, while we said from the first day that when we are under sanctions, no one will give us cars, and we have to buy cars from other countries.” We should import a limited number of Arab intermediaries, which is clear with the self-imposed sanctions imposed by the authorities, that we cannot import a large number of cars, and now we have to look for the import of second-hand foreign cars, which is also a challenge for its health and how to supply it.
In the end, Sadrai said: Finally, it is possible to import 5,000 cars from the UAE and 3,000 from Turkey, which is not enough to affect our domestic market. Importing cars in our country is effective when sanctions are lifted and self-sanctions are abandoned. They have applied things such as price ceiling, engine volume and car supply in the stock market. Where in the world do they manage like this? They have designed an irrational dumb system that they cannot implement. In my opinion, the import of used cars will have its own problems.
