In the continuation of the suppression of Ukrainian security authorities; Zelensky dismissed the heads of three regional offices

According to the report of Fars News Agency, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the heads of three regional offices of the country’s Security Service (SBU) on Monday (August 15). Earlier, he had fired the head of the National Security Service over allegations of widespread betrayal among agents.

According to “Rasha Today” network, senior security officials in Kyiv, Lviv and Ternopil regions were dismissed by order of Zelensky. The new head of the office of this organization in Kyiv was immediately appointed, but the replacement of the other two people has not yet been determined.

According to the report, Zelensky’s move appears to be a continuation of the crackdown on Ukraine’s National Security Service that he began in mid-July. At that time, the President of Ukraine dismissed the head of the Security Service, Ivan Bakanov, his deputy and four regional heads of this organization. He also dismissed Attorney General Irina Vendictova. Zelenskiy claimed that the move was due to “massive betrayal” under the direction of these officials.

The move was reportedly not viewed positively by the US government, which publicly has unwavering support for the Ukrainian president. White House officials have said privately that there is a growing distrust in Washington of Zelensky’s increasingly authoritarian leadership, according to US media.

According to the Russian network, in the midst of conflicts in Ukraine, it is not unusual for the authorities of this country to question the loyalty of citizens. Nikolaev Governor Vitaly Kim had said he might quarantine his regional capital to purge Bolshevik-style supporters of Russia, saying he didn’t trust anyone.

On February 24, Russia sent its troops to this country citing the non-implementation of the Minsk Agreements by Kyiv, which was designed to grant a special status to Donetsk and Luhansk regions inside Ukraine. In the same month, the Kremlin recognized the Donbas republics as independent states and demanded that Ukraine formally declare itself a neutral country that would never join any Western military bloc. Kiev insists that the Russian attack was completely unprovoked.
