Sony plans to release the new generation PSVR2 virtual reality headset this holiday season. In this version, while solving the previous problems, we have tried to see improvements in different parts of this headset. However, Sony has announced that titles released for PSVR1 will not be compatible with the PSVR 2 headset. Stay with Lion Tech.

In 2016, Samurai finally unveiled their first virtual reality headset, the PSVR. Sony hoped to attract the attention of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive headset enthusiasts to its new product. For this reason, they entered a new competition and launched this headset at a price of $399, which was much lower than its competitors.

Of course, to use PSVR, you also needed a PlayStation 4, and if you didn’t have a console, you had to pay an amount to buy it, which ended up being the same price as the HTC Vive. Despite all this, Sony noted that the first generation of their virtual reality headset has been a relative success, with around 5 million units sold worldwide by 2022.

At that time, in 2016, virtual reality had not yet entered the market in the way it is used today, and over time, it was able to establish its position in the market. Competitors such as Meta’s Quest 2 were able to achieve much better success in the market and according to the statistics published by the manufacturer, this product has sold 15 million copies so far.

Sony certainly intends to take advantage of this opportunity, which is why the company decided to officially unveil the PSVR 2 at CES 2022. At least in terms of technical specifications, we see a big improvement over the first version of PSVR, and among the main features of this version, we can mention support for touch triggers, controller tracking, 3D sound and 4K resolution with HDR.

It is said that this product will be available for all regions of the world between the holidays of this year and the first half of 2023. However, buyers of this headset may not have much to experience early on, as they won’t be able to experience the games released for PSVR1 on their new VR headset.

In order for first edition games to be playable on PSVR2, the developers of each game must individually release an update to be compatible with the new device. However, it is unlikely that all games will receive this update.
