The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), run by the Government of India, after consulting industry stakeholders on standards, global supply chain constraints and product availability, this news announced Rohit Kumar Singh, Secretary of India’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs said:

“BIS has announced standards for Type-C chargers and the government will introduce two common types of charging ports for mobile and wearable electronic devices.”

He continues:

“There is broad consensus between industry and government that the use of USB Type-C charging ports can be made mandatory six months after the EU standards for USB charging ports are introduced in 2024; Because with this, electronics manufacturers will have an integrated global supply chain.

All Indian smartphone manufacturers and tech companies must use USB Type-C as the standard charging port for their electronic products by March 2025, three months after the EU deadline. However, some devices that have no scientific use for USB Type-C will be exempt from the mandate.
