India forms a committee to investigate the complaints of users of social networks – Mehr news agency Iran and world’s news

According to Mehr news agency, quoted by Reuters, the Indian government has announced new clauses for its information technology law, which also includes social networks. The move is likely to help curb the power of tech companies in the country.

Under the added clauses, which will take effect on October 28, a government panel will be formed to hear user complaints about the social networks’ decisions to review content.

In addition, social networks are required to respond to user complaints within 24 hours after receiving the review and within 15 days or in the case of content removal within 72 hours.

In June, the Indian government made changes to its IT law that required companies to respect citizens’ rights under the Indian constitution, and proposed a government panel on the matter.

The government of this country believes that users who are dissatisfied with the decision of social networks to delete their content do not have a proper system to appeal this situation and their only legal reference is to go to court.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not have good relations with many big companies, and the country’s government constantly imposes strict rules on companies such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

Tensions over the decisions of social networks to review content are a significant challenge in India, and often involve requests to remove content.
