Introducing Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors

study time: 3 minutes

AMD officially unveiled Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors.

Months ago, AMD announced that although Ryzen 6000 series processors for laptops are on the way, we will not see desktop models for this generation, and instead desktop processors will be released as a member of the Ryzen 7000 series. During the past weeks, a lot of information about these processors has been revealed, but anyway, they were officially introduced last night, and they are supposed to reach users at a price between 299 and 699 dollars.

AMD claims that the performance of these processors is better than the company’s expectations. Also, Ryzen 9 7950X, which is considered the best and most expensive model of this family, performs about 57% better than Intel’s Core i9-12900K in terms of content creation performance.

Specifically, the Ryzen 9 7950X performs about 35% better than the previous generation in Shadow of the Tome Raider, and its performance improvement in CS:GO is about 13%. Meanwhile, AMD claims that Zen 4 processing cores are the best for gaming, although Intel always makes such claims at the event of introducing its new processors.

In the Geekbench 5.4 single-core benchmark test, the Ryzen 9 7950X processor managed to record 2275 points, and for comparison, we should point out that the Core i9-12900K scored 2040 points in the same test. In general, AMD claims that the Ryzen 5 7600X offers an average of 5% better performance than the Core i9-12900K in terms of gaming.

Other important specifications

Ryzen 9 7950X has 16 cores and 32 processing threads, and the boost clock speed reaches a maximum of 5.7 GHz. We should also mention the use of a total of 8 MB for cache memory (with doubling of the L2 cache) and the thermal design power of 170 watts. This means a significant increase in thermal design power, but AMD promises improved energy efficiency.

5 nm lithography by TSMC was used to build the Zen 4 architecture, and as a result, the area of the cores and L2 cache has been significantly reduced. Below you can see the specifications of all new AMD processors.

Other new features include support for DDR5 RAM and PCIe 5.0 slot, both of which are supported by the latest generation of Intel processors. However, the main difference between them is that the Ryzen 7000 series processors only support DDR5 RAM, which means that users will no longer be able to use DDR4 RAM.

Although DDR5 RAMs offer significant benefits, they still come at a high price, and it remains to be seen how this decision will be reacted to by users and buyers.

Price and release date

According to AMD’s announcement, users can buy these processors from September 27 (October 5) and their prices are as follows:
