iOS 17.3 security feature protects iPhones from thieves

Apple has released several features to increase the security of iPhone phones, and now in the beta version of iOS 17.3 another security feature named Stolen Device Protection has made it available for iPhone phones. This security feature prevents thieves from doing things like disabling Find My or changing your Apple ID password after stealing your iPhone.

When iPhones are stolen, the thief usually resets the owner’s Apple ID password and then disables the Find My feature. Also, before reselling the device, it will be factory reset to erase all data from the original owner. Property Stolen Device Protection which is currently in beta, prevents thieves from doing these things.

How the new iPhone security feature works

For example, when this feature is not enabled, an iPhone thief can easily change your Apple ID password. But despite this feature, when the iPhone is away from familiar places like the owner’s home or work, the phone asks for a Face ID or Touch ID scan of the user to change the password or even disable Find MY. This feature uses things like location, biometric scans, and time delays so that users can protect their data from thieves.

An Apple spokesperson explains in a statement:

“As threats to users’ devices continue to evolve, we are constantly developing new and powerful protection features for our users and their data.”

After getting the latest beta version of iOS 17.3, you can enable this security feature from the Face ID and Passcode section. The new iOS 17.3 update will be released publicly in the coming weeks so that other iPhone users can also get this security feature.
