According to the Mehr reporter, the World Wrestling Union mentioned on its official page the 2022 Asian Championship hosted by Mongolia and called the Iranian and Indian teams the main contenders for the ancient continent.
“In freestyle wrestling, Iran and India are sending strong teams to the Asian Games to compete in the Indian team of Ravi Kumar and Bajrang Pony, who were the medal winners of the Tokyo Olympics,” the Wrestling Union said in a statement. On the other hand, the national freestyle wrestling team of Iran includes Rahman Amouzad, Younes Emami, Amir Hossein Firoozpour and Mohammad Hossein Mohammadian.
Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will also use their flagships in some weights.
Silver medalist Ray Higuchi from Japan, Asian medalist Mingo Liu from China, Deepak Poonya from India, Xiu Deng from China are other prominent figures in the Asian Wrestling Championships.
In wrestling, Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Akzhul Makhmudov and South Korea Olympic gold medalist Kim Hyun-woo will be among the key figures. “Mehdi Mohsennejad from Iran, Ayata Suzuki from Japan, Yernur Fidakhmetov from Kazakhstan and Zhulman Sharshenbekov from Kyrgyzstan will also be on the mat in Mongolia.”
The Asian Wrestling Championships will be held on April 20 and 21, and the Asian Freestyle Wrestling Championships will be held on April 3 and 4 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
